In nature chinchilla is grey but because they expand their populaity as pets they also expand the variety of colors, from simple white to mosaic, brown and black velvet, even in Panda’s colors. In addition to the comfort that comes from petting their soft fur, they can entertain us with their tricks and enthusiasm for jumping and climbing about. Chinchilla will charge you with their enthusiasm and make you feel positive and full of energy, so if you still don’t have one it is a good idea to get your own chinchilla fast. In the wild chinchillas tend to form colonies and in captivity with enough space, chinchillas of the same sex live peacefully together in one single cage. Males can also be kept with one or more females. But, male chinchillas have a tendency to fight each other over ladyes so you should not have more then one male housed with females. Living in a space that is too small chinchillas may have the tendency to become territorial. In the end they still have in their nature the animal instinct. But don’t worry about this, because if you respect the rules you will have a healthy and happy chilli.
Chinchillas should be kept in a wire cage so that they can not chew their way out. The wire should not be painted or coated because the chinchilla can digest this coating. You can get a cage that has mesh spaces no larger then 1,5 to 2 inches apart and the mesh spaces on the bottom of the cage should not be any larger then ½ inch apart.
